My younger son is an inexhaustible source of funny anecdotes. The other day he was telling me about this incident that baffled him and left me roaring with laughter.
Now this little man is the picture of perfect behavior outside of home – shy to a fault, he turns red if someone so much as gives him little attention; he is chatty and fun though with his friends in class. But, he is well mannered, does his work and in general is an epitome of obedience for his teachers.
So, the other day this Science teacher called him to her table in the Staff room with his notebook. Before asking him to go back to his class, she asked him to call a boy named S. But she slightly messed up in her instructions. So she said, “Call me S!” My poor boy thought that for some weird reason his teacher wanted to be called S even though it was a boy’s name. Not one to question this weird wish, he softly caller her S. The teacher might have not paid attention to him because she didn’t react and asked him to run along.
A few minutes later, she comes to class and finds the little man sitting comfortably in his chair, no signs of him having sent along S. So, she comes all guns blazing yelling at my confused boy. She thinks he is lazy and did not do as he was told. The poor boy was left wondering what he did wrong. He felt very offended. After all he had only done what she had told him. And, when he narrated this to me, I laughed real hard making his misery worse.
This is what happens when you are too focussed on words. 🙂 I guess he picks that from his mother. But seriously, the words should make sense contextually too. He stood his ground that he was not at fault and didn’t like the way the teacher yelled at him.
Anyhow, we have started calling the teacher S ma’am at home these days. 🙂
With that I wish you a Happy Monday. Oh and by the way, he gave me his blessing to write about this incident in this blog post. I have been trying to teach him to laugh at himself these days. Hopefully, this is a tiny nudge in that direction. And so he will be reading the comments to this post for sure.
