5 types of pictures taken with your smartphone

Most people look down upon smartphones when it comes to taking good quality pictures. Those who are photography enthusiasts and experts swear by their SLRs and lenses. For a common blogger like me who knows very little about photography, my smartphone is very handy and useful. Its portability and size is a great asset, as it lets me capture images on the go. I cannot possibly lug my camera along always. These days most phones come fitted with excellent cameras. A little practice with the various features of your phone’s camera and you can click stunning pictures. Even a not-so-great picture can be retrieved by using multiple Apps that enhance your pictures.

These are 5 types of pictures that I normally click with my smartphone.

Outdoors:

Quirky views and interesting objects strike my fancy pretty often.

Flora and Fauna: Whether it is a pretty flower, a bird in flight, a beautiful sky or a mischievous puppy, I love clicking them all.

Knick knacks:

Clicking banners is especially fun.

Food

Ah, food! My favorite muse.

House mates:

Most of the times I click inside the house, I do so in low light.

All these pictures were clicked with ASUS Zenfone 5. It has an 8 MP autofocus rear camera and a 2 MP front camera for selfies. The selfies with beautfication feature come out great as well.

🙂 Im a camera fan mostly because im too lazy to learn the technicalities of taking interesting pics from my phone. But most of my daughter’s pics (since her birth) have been taken using a phone and to date i believe they are the best ones!

  Wow! That’s interesting, Lekha. I thought those who could click well with larger cameras will find it easy to click with a cellphone. Yes, I can imagine. With kids, you get the best pics unposed.

LOL!! Love the Arey Oh Sambar photo!!
I too rely on my smartphone nowadays for taking photos of spontaneous moments!! And, you’re right; the cameras installed in them are really sophisticated nowadays!

I love my smartphone for clicking pics as I feel it’s handy and always with us, Rachna!
By the time we open & click with our Cameras, the scene/moment is lost!
Nice pics.
Great that you have the lovely Pipili handicraft in your home 🙂 Have you connected a light-bulb inside? Then, you’ll have awesome light!

I have been using a phone to document the changing visual vocabulary of Hyderabad’s cityscape. It is challenging, and I clicked through to see if there were any tips on how to take better smartphone pics. I guess that post is on its way. Why the gun, though?

  I really work with a lot of trial and error, so I am not sure if I can offer any tips. I am more conscious of light and background. These photos are unprocessed, but I do modify contrast etc. if awry. With smartphones it helps to take a burst of pics of the same object. That way at least one pic will come well focussed and sharp. I also never use the flash. About the gun, it is Gautam’s toy that he had placed in the bookcase. A strange contrast I felt hence clicked it.

This is a quandary I face quite often Rachna, especially with going through phases when I go crazy about clicking, which leads me to wonder if I should invest in a better camera. It was useful to get a direct user review of the Zenfone, I especially liked the fact that it clicks low light pics quite well. Thanks for sharing the lovely pics – You know I would notice the lovely brinjal flowers in particular ;).

  Thanks, Aparna. Welcome to my space. Yes, I can see why you would be partial to the brinjal flowers. :). I do have a Sony point and shoot and an SLR, but I hardly use them. I guess I am too lazy or that my cellphone camera is so much more convenient.

I have a DSLR, but I use it only for holidays or visits to the bird sanctuary or someplace specific. But ever since I got an iPhone, I feel the point and shoot kinda camera is better suited for me. Coz you might not have all the time to focus and shoot in all kind of situations. As much as I love shooting abstract clicks and outdoor pics, I do like the whole process of focusing and adjusting the Aperture, shutter speed to capture the perfect shot. But comparatively I prefer the phone camera, coz you can click pics of food in a giffy 😀

  Yes, pretty much like you. There was a trip we took when we lugged the SLR around and yet did not click a single pic with it. That was totally crazy.

Nice pictures.

It’s only been a while since I’ve started using my phone to take pictures. I’m not too great at it but it’s been fun experimenting.

You’re right it’s easier to carry along and comes handy when you are not carrying an SLR or even a point-and-shoot (now that we are sure to have a phone on us).

  True, Dee. You take spectacular pictures. Mine are more pedestrian. But sometimes, I have been surprised with the clarity and sharpness of the shots that were unplanned. I must also carry my Sony point-and-shoot. It is a really good camera but I haven’t invested much time on it. This phone in the sub 10K range with which I took the shots surprised me with its excellent features. My kids loved it too.

Guilty as charged! Cell phone camera is my primary camera when with family truth be told kids click better pictures with cell phone than I do 🙂 I specially loved the food pictures in this post as they are the toughest to take.
