I sit by my window. The weather is beautiful outside. The trees are flush with leaves. Copious rains have been doing them a world of good. The plants are blooming! The Hydrangea with their lovely lavender-blue canopies; the pretty jasmine flowers that emanate a soft, soothing perfume; and the bright red, orange and pink hibiscus, large and beautiful — they beckon me to reach out to them. It is a treat for the eyes. The trees and the grasses sway in the strong winds. When I look up, the sky is gray with large clouds pregnant with heavy droplets threatening to shed their load at any instant. Bangalore has a weather to die for! Pleasant and cool, it is ideal to be outdoors. I can hear my friends playing in the ground — their laughter, their cheering and jeering, their banter.
Oh how I long to go out and play and enjoy the great weather that everyone extolls. Alas, I sit cooped up inside suffering from runny nose, itchy eyes and a terrible bout of respiratory allergies and praying that the sun comes out again!
Footnote: Bangalore is termed the allergy capital of India. 9% of its population suffers from chronic sinusitis. Its low humidity, high pollution levels and the pollen of the widely occurring Pyrethrum plants are the main culprits.
