Little G: “Dad, you are great!”

Dad: “Wow! How come?’ (Feeling extremely elated)

Little G: ” You can fix any problem.” (Read gadgets, plumbing, electrical problems, furniture)

Dad beaming

Mom: “You are right. He can! What about mom?” (with an expectant look)

Little G: “You are great too!” (without batting an eyelid)

Mom: “Why is that?” (gotcha!)

Little G: “Because you are good!” (Aap achche ho!)

Speechless at how smart my little boy is ;-). He does think on his feet. He will be a hit with girls later on in life 😉

Sounds interesting. Guess conversations with children can make interesting blog posts. Another of my friend used to have detailed philosophical discussions with children and post it on the blog.

Conversations with kids can be really engaging and intriguing. They are normally guileless and they question incessantly. I do write about any interesting conversations but many times I forget some too. There was one about God that I had with my younger son. That was very telling. I had written about it in an earlier post.

I love conversing with kids , especially ones that I don’t know well. A colleague brought her 5 y.o. daughter to the office. Me: ‘Hi there, what’s your name?’ Her: ‘Lili’. ‘So, Lili, do you like it at Mommy’s work? Are you going to be helping her today?’ ….Silence…then out of sudden ‘I only talk to my friends. I don’t talk to strangers’ Me:’Well, let’s be friends then. I’m Iliana.’ …. another silence… ‘You can’t be my friend, you are too old’ … Ouch! and LOL

LOL. Kids can be really blunt. They just don’t know how to be diplomatic and that is why it is so much fun to interact with them. I used to find it a bit hard to talk to kids. Some people are just good at striking conversations with them; I wasn’t. But when I had my own, I started finding it easier to talk to kids. It is now pretty enjoyable to talk to them and to hear their insults too once in a while ;-).
