That New Year!

Today, I share with you some happy memories of a New Year spent in a bittersweet way right after my marriage. An excerpt

“The year was 2000. After my wedding and a few days spent at my in-laws place in Hyderabad, my husband and I flew off to the USA. He had been recently employed there. We were going to stay in a motel for a few days till we got our apartment in Fremont in about 10 days’ time. Our flight took off from Ahmedabad, India, on 31st Dec.”

Today, I write a Guest Post on Latha’s blog, Found in Folsom. I’ve known Latha for a relatively short time, but she is someone with whom I share a great bond. She is very warm, full of beans and truly caring. I am blessed to find good friends like her in the blogworld. Like me, she is a mom who juggles a home, job and family. And, she maintains a personal blog where she shares her musings. I also wish her a very Happy blog anniversary as her blog completes 1 year today! Yay and wish you many more such milestones Latha! Keep smiling and always stay the warm soul that you are.

Awww….that’s really sweet of you to pass on many kinds words for me. I hope to never disappoint you for what you think of me. Truly, I am lucky to have found friends like you in the blog world. Many times, you stood by my side to say, don’t feel guilty, we all do it. You don’t know how much relief that gives me. Once again, thanks for the sweet post. It reminded of my initial days in U.S. Btw, I too celebrated my First New Year’s eve in the U.S in Fremont itself. 🙂

It was interesting reading about the experiences and visualising the situation. I never feel comfortable when I am abroad. In India, even in the remote places near jungles, where I had to use sign language to ask for food, I feel comfortable. Not sure why. It is precisely this reason as well as the fear of being away from Indian forests, I had decided against working abroad. So it was really interesting reading the account of a newly married person dreaming of setting up her house in a foreign country.

Actually, I have loved my stay in places around the world. It may seem daunting initially but it really is much easier. Processes are simple and things work the way they are supposed to at least in developed nations like US and other European countries. We are born here so we feel comfortable. But India can be nightmarish in many ways for a foreigner.
