Oh yes, all the natak that happened in Karnataka, no one in the country was left untouched. The less said about Yeddy the better. In between temple visits, vacations, land grabbing, who cared about administration. And, the way the old man negotiated his way through, it would seem like he was getting a promotion rather than a rap for his role in the mining scam and numerous other scams. It is another story that the larger lords go untouched. Where is the prosecution let alone punishment?
The larger point is that the moral fabric of people in this country has touched rock bottom and then what can any bill achieve? It is eventually people manning those judge’s chairs or the official’s chairs. If they are morally corruptible, which in most cases seems very likely then who can help us. Wasn’t it time for each of us to take responsibility for the pitiable state of affairs around us instead of passing the buck around? What happened to social ostracization of the corrupt? Why are the wealthy worshipped irrespective of how they gathered this wealth? Why are we not able to teach our kids that success by any means — fair and unfair is wrong? We talk about morals and our cultural superiority in India — all hogwash. In 65 years after independence, we have seen mass looting of public funds, and as Justice Hegde pointed out “Everyone has their hands in the till.” Who will punish whom? Chor chor mausere bhai.
What purpose does removing CMs serve? Are they prosecuted, jailed, made to pay for their mistakes, and money recovered from them? It seems that most things move because SC is constantly monitoring things, and media makes a hue and cry about it. We have the worst and most incompetent Opposition possible so the Grand Old Party is least bothered about public opinion. The Opposition just makes noises but has no concrete agenda or solutions to offer us. And, all of us are sick of words — we need action. Then we have idiotic babas diluting the credibility of people’s movements. The monsoon session of Parliament promises to be a boisterous one, and we seem to moving towards one more movement.
I wonder if things have hit rock bottom and the only way is up, or if there is more of the bottom to be reached? Also, don’t you think that 5 years is too long for a government term because finally they just throw public opinion out of the window because they are the elected and their word counts not the word of those who have put them in the “gaddi” in the first place. Haven’t we had enough scams to last us a lifetime in the first three years of UPA-2 at the Centre and BJP in Karnataka?
