Weird people!

I live in a community of 300+ villas and would like to talk about these three people who seem educated and well to do on the face of it, yet are so weird in their habits. There is a lady who has moved in recently. She has a pet dog who is a mongrel (a great gesture to give a home to one). But to save herself time, she lets her dog loose without a leash and sometimes without a collar to go do his business in the mornings. She cares a damn that her dog is dirtying someone else’s garden or the roads that belong to all of us as long as her house is clean and she does not have to move her butt to take her dog out. I don’t know why people keep pets when they cannot take good care of them. The other day I told her, very politely, that she must keep her dog under supervision and on leash at all times as there are small kids all around. She smiled and said she will. I am yet to see any change of behavior on that front. She also has this horrible habit of putting her dustbin out at all times when the garbage collection happens only once in a day. What is the matter with such people? Don’t they have a sense of hygiene and civility?

There is another lady who is such a nosey Parker and a peeping Tom. I am not joking.  Her family would be always curious about what is going on in someone else’s house, and their neighbors bore the brunt of their overt intrusiveness.
This one takes a cake. This lady has a young daughter. Once, I saw her daughter sitting by the side of the road with her pants pulled down and urinating. Her own house was barely a 100 meters away. She was asking her daughter to hurry up and finish. I cannot believe that a girl would be asked to do something like this in plain view of any strangers passing by. What kind of a mother is she?
Strange people, strange world!

    Strange people indeed!!We live in a flat and we have neighbours who know each and everything that happens at our place; even tho we speak konkani at home.Strange isn’t it

    OHHH MMY GODDD! Brazil is a nation of weird people!!! I’m kidding :DWhat you said about that little girl and the nosey Parker/peeping Tom is really a lack of education, sad. The little girl’s fact is even much uglier, because it is a girl, very sad. Not that it was a boy would be less ugly, but I think it’s more normal.Regarding the mongrel dogs, well, here five out of ten dog owners have dogs mixed. I think we are weird :DFinally, your garbage collection happens, often, more than one time a day? Well, well, well. I guess brazilians are really a weird people because the garbage truck only appears every other day :DBut ok, this is weird, I agree. 😀

    Yes we come across such weird people all the time. There are people in Mumbai who would throw banana peels bunch of combed hair etc. out of their window, not even bothering to see if somebody was passing or standing below. (not that throwing garbage out like this good in the first place) They would keep their house clean, but will deliberately throw unwanted things from their balcony or their windows. They will never learn.

    @bbsearchingself Wow, how do they do it? Maybe, they have been listening so frequently that they picked up Konkani. I had to keep my curtains drawn up all the time to protect myself from a neighbor who loved to peep into my house, sometimes unabashedly.@RGB You bet! And, it teaches us to appreciate the decent kind.@David Don’t know David. I wonder if it is the lack of education because on the face of it they are educated and reasonably well off. It is more a lack of etiquette and good manners. Yes, I agree about the little girl point you made. I would think the same if it was a little boy, but a little girl — that’s obscene.Nah, having mixed-breed dogs is actually nice :). And, you are getting really good with pulling my leg, in a good-humored way :).

    @Destiny’s child I think, it is a matter of habit for them. I really wonder if they would come to their senses anytime soon.@rama So true, rama. I have seen the same. What is it with people? They think that if their house is neat and the neighborhood is dirty, that is ok! This mentality really upsets me.

    we had people pluck flowers from the apt garden. and one lady wrote an email asking everyone to donate 5Rs who those ppl who do that act.since then the nuisance has stopped. u need such harsh emails some times to bring some sense..vani

    @David I understand perfectly! Thanks for your comment.@Vani I wish, we could do that. I know for sure that these families are not reading the group emails. I am planning to take up the issue again with the pet lady because she lives in my vicinity, and it is a concern for me as I have two young kids. About the other two, what can we do — it’s hardly appropriate to teach someone manners.

    this is very interesting..Indian people have to learn many more things regarding public hygiene, good manners, etc..But to tell frankly, your narration made me smile sometimes..

    @rachna.it’s irritating to have such neighbor’s ..to narrate ,here even in US,i have indian neighbor’s who keep heir door open 24/7 and keep walking in and out to other houses all he ime.It looks as if there is a ‘fair’going on:)The worst part was the gal urintaing!

    @raji So true! Maybe, your neighbors are Gujarati. I had the same experience with some Gujju neighbors who kept their doors open all the time. One got the feeling of being watched and scrutinized.@David hahaha You are right; sometimes, I do feel strange :). Why else would these things bother me when others just turn a blind eye to them?

    @Jon Yes, people have become selfish. Care for only one’s own self, one’s own house — everyone else be damned.@dr. antony I still am surprised when people spring such behavior. The worse part is they continue to do so even when they have seen that someone has noticed and pointedly told them so. That is even more callous.

    hmmm well if you were here i would suggest ring the police , she will soon find out when she is sent a ticket to pay.. and or the dog taken into care.. I must say here most people clean after there dog, yes true, they have paper bags with them .. and each dog has to be collored and leash.. and yeah the last example does take the cake.. WEIRD stupid woman i would say … Bikram’s

    @Bikram I know, I have lived in the US, and I have seen how the owners pick up the dog-poop after their dog. We are stuck with such people who know what they are doing is wrong, yet keep doing it because they feel lazy to take their dog out.@Ramesh 🙂

    Hi. First time visitor to your blog. The contents of your post is something that most city dwellers have to contend with. We really need to learn how to live in community. Where I live, we own two parking spaces. And this guy who lives upstairs, simply parks his car in one of our spaces without even asking us!! After this happened a few times, one day I simply parked my scooty bang in the middle of the space. After that the great man deigned to call us and ask if he can use our space to park his car.

    Weird people indeed. Why weird..that’s being too soft, uncivilized would be apt too. Sometimes, such people don’t get it until u tell them point blank to stop peeking into others homes! or ask them to pick the dog poop. Do you have any association, that could send letters putting fine on such people? It works like that here. Hopefully, you’ll find a solution.

    @Deepa Welcome to my blog. And, you have made a valid point. We just take liberties without even bothering to ask for permissions. How horrible of the guy to use your parking space, but you taught him a good lesson.@gayatri Yes, didi. We do have an Association but normally they do not get involved in small matters like these. Mostly, everyone wants to project a good face to the other, so people just grin and bear it.
